The Hot Zone: Part One

So far, I've become interested in this book. I've been explaining it to my family members and they all think it's disgusting. To me, I agree, but I also find it cool. More disgusting than cool, though. It's been keeping me entertained and for once, I actually want to read a school book.

I've learned very much about the virus, which is only natural since the author provides great detail about it. I enjoy reading the first hand accounts of the virus the most though. Rather than drone on and on about the origins of the virus, I prefer a brief summary and then cases of the virus. So when I read the parts where the people are affected and how they're affected, I get interested and I learn many things.

In my opinion, I get the feeling that those bats are the source of the virus. I don't really know why I feel that way, other than the fact that in the beginning, the author stated that Charles Monet may have tasted their secretions. That isn't normal and no one should ever do that.

I look forward to finding out the actual source of the virus and to see if my hypothesis is correct.

  1. I agree with this. All of this. It's one of the first times a book from school has kept my attention, but I don't think we'll find where it originates, as its natural reservoir is still unknown. I also agree with the first hand accounts being far more interesting than a flat narrative. And yes, secretion tasting isn't normal and should never be done.
