The Hot Zone: Part Two

As I read Part Two, I found myself much more interested that the first section. Now that the background information has been laid out, the book was much easier to follow. I was fascinated when reading and learning about the monkeys, maybe because they're my favorite animal (which also makes this book slightly more upsetting). How quickly the disease spread wasn't very surprising considering it is a Level 4 hot agent. The familiar places, agencies, and names in this section made the story easier to relate to. We're learning more about the characters and their lives, and I'm starting to feel a connection to some of them, like Nancy Jaax. Now that the Army is being allowed to look at the monkeys, the suspense is building. If it's possible for the virus to spread so easily, especially because now it may be spreading through the air, I don't understand why the Army team isn't being trained before sending groups in. I understand there is a time constraint and they've been previously trained, but really. I'd be scared to death if I had to deal with the virus, with or with out training. It's just too infectious to risk.

  1. I was wondering the same thing about the army. I feel like a little more training would have been necessary.

  2. I was just thinking the same thing about the lack of training. I mean if you're going to spend people to deal with a very important hot agent wouldn't you want to make sure they know what they're doing?

  3. Exactly. I just had a feeling that wasn't thought out very well...
