A C4 plant is a plant that creates a four carbon sugar level as its main sugar while performing photosynthesis. A C4 plant doesn't need as much water as a C3 plant, but needs more than a CAM plant. The aspect that sets C4 plants aside from the other two is that it has an outer layer the protects the substance from harsh weather conditions. Ex: The skin on corn.
