The Hot Zone Part 3 & Photos (5)

The Hot Zone Part 3
In this reading, they began to start the process of cleaning out the monkey house. This was to be done by killing the monkey by giving them lethal doses of ketamine, then taking the monkeys out safely. Once the monkeys were out, they would gas the building out, killing anything left inside. I found this Part very exciting due to all of the near-death incidents! Such as when one of the monkeys, while OPEN on the operating table, began to move and jump and come back to life, bleeding all over the place near sharp objects! And when one of the monkeys got loose! My heart was racing when I read about the dream that one of the 91-Tangos had of the loose monkey chasing her, and the hallway she was running down never ended, talk about a nightmare!! As it turns out, this form of Ebola was somehow harmless to humans, but extremely deadly to monkeys. Lucky for Tom and Peter! This form of Ebola is extremely related to Ebola-Zaire, however Ebola-Reston, as they named it, can tell the difference between human and monkey, and is believed to be airborne. How scary! I'm still curious as to how, after the army wiped the monkey house clean of disease, the new monkeys still got sick once they started housing monkeys again. Were the monkeys already infected when they arrived to the monkey house? Or is Ebola-Reston THAT contagious to monkeys that a small amount was left inside the monkey house and went viral once new monkeys (hosts) arrived?? And where did this strain of Ebola even originate from?

Seed Dispersal- This dandelion has very light cotton-like seeds that fly off of its stem whenever the wind picks up. These seeds will fly far distances if the wind is strong enough to where it will deposit the seed, grow a new dandelion and repeat the process.

Niche- This deer is grazing on the berries that fell from the tree across the street from my coaches house. A niche is the ecological position of an organism related to another, the position of this deer is to eat vegetation, which it is in these following photos.

Auxin Producing Area of a Plant- A plant produces auxin, a hormone related to plant development, when it is budding. The buds on this plant contain auxin.

Pollinator- The bee, which is seen on the far bottom flower, is the pollinator in this situation. It is collecting nectar to make honey, however it is unknowingly transferring the flowers pollen from flower to flower.
Fermentation- In order to make this wine, yeast had to interact with the grape juice to create ethyl alcohol and carbon dioxide. This process is known as fermentation.
