The Hot Zone part 3

After reading part 3, it seems that the first two parts were leading up to it. This part of the book held the meat of the story with the decon of the Reston building and all of the safety decisions to make. I found it interesting that this new strain of Ebola is harmless to humans but deadly to monkeys, since the other strains seemed to have a pretty high fatality rate in both animals. I also liked how Jahrling didn't believe they "dodged a bullet' because, one, people actually DID get infected(just not harmed), and two, people are going to now believe that viruses that look like Reston are going to be assumed to be harmless now. I just hate not knowing where the viruses are all exactly coming from!

  1. This portion of the book definitely tied the rest of them together and is what I would consider the climax. It's crazy to think that while the virus is spreading rapidly and making a terrible impact on all of the monkeys that it touched, the four humans that were infected were barely harmed. How is that possible? It's also scary to think that since they didn't necessarily get harmed that people will think that similar viruses will be just as harmless when in fact no one really knows. I don't like not knowing where they come from either!
