8th AP Biology Scavenger Hunt

(HABANERO PEPPER) Ethylene: Ethylene helps fruits and vegetables, and the like, ripen.
(MOSS) Gametophyte: A moss is a type of gametophyte because is has gamete-producing organs that help produce more moss.
(CRAB APPLE TREE) Eukaryote: The cells of this tree have membranes around their nuclei, so it is considered a eukaryote.
(PERSIAN NEPETA) Gibberellins: This plant contains gibberellins are plant hormones that in the growth of the overall plant and it's flowers.
(PINE TREE) Gymnosperm Leaf: A gymnosperm is a tree with "naked seeds" or commonly known as pine cones. Also well recognized are their "leaves".
(CREEPING JENNY) Introduced Species: Creeping Jenny is most commonly found in parts of Europe but can live and survive here in the US. However, creeping jenny becomes quite aggressive and invasive of common plants here in the US.
(VEGETABLE OIL) Lipid used for Energy Storage: A synonym for lipid is fat and fat is the body's stored energy. Vegetable oil is a type of lipid.
(BANANA PEPPER) Meristem: The portion of the stem of this banana pepper is a meristem because the cells of the banana pepper multiplied and grew from this stem so the pepper got bigger.
(ANTIBIOTIC CREAM) Prokaryote: A prokaryote is any type of common bacteria, some being good and some bad. When we get a cut, we use antibiotic cream to kill the bad bacteria that cause infections.
(EMU) Vestigial Structures: Emus' wings are vestigial structures because most birds' wings are used for flying. Emu use their wings for balance while they are running.
