Exoskeleton

A species with an exoskeleton possesses a hard exterior shell that covers its body. This exterior skeleton protects the animal's internal organs, much like a suit of armor.

Generally possessed by Insects, Arachnids, Crustaceans, Bivalves, or a Species belonging to a similar category.

In order for an organism with an Exoskeleton to grow, because the shell cannot grow with it, it must shed its current exterior so it may grow a larger one.

This Grasshopper possesses an Exoskeleton.
