The Hot Zone: Part 3 Post

After learning about this Ebola Reston virus and how it is said to not affect humans, it kind of got me thinking.  In the beginning of the novel, we learned that Marburg must have started in a species that it now doesn't effect. So, I was thinking that maybe humans are the original host of Ebola Reston because they are not affected by it now. It's just a thought, but it makes sense. I think it's awesome how the author incorporated illustrations of the viruses in the novel, even though it is almost impossible for me to tell them apart. As for that loose monkey running around, that was the only thing in the entire novel so far that I found terrifying and hilarious at the same time! It's amazing how many safety precautions there are. From getting sprayed off with bleach to stripping off two layers of clothing, I guess in this business you can never be too clean! Can't wait for part 4!

  1. I agree with your theory. You're right, they have to be very careful and clean in this situation since they know almost nothing about it.

  2. That is a good thought about humans being the original host. It would explain why it doesn't affect humans like it did the monkeys, because maybe through the years we have become genetically imune to it. It is an intriging thought an I'm glad you brought it up. :)

  3. Interesting thought! I guess Ebola could do anything, even decide to let people live and die with every new infection. Scary thought that we could host Ebola and not even know it. The loose monkey was pretty entertaining!
