The Hot Zone: Part 2

After reading to this point in the book, I am still fascinated by the potential of the disease to create a mass panic across the world, and the fact that we are consistently so close to achieving this panic.  It seems that we always seem to just miss a cataclysmic event that would change the world as we know it.  One of the more interesting points in this part of the book was, to me at least, the potential for the clash between the CDC and the Army.  The fact that both of these branches work to protect the people of the US but could potentially let egos get in the way of the health of our nation truly seems quite dumb.  The chain of command in emergency situations was also an intriguing piece to witness in this situation, as each level has to be certain of the news in which they bring to the next level for fear of embarrassment if wrong.

  1. I agree with the egos getting in the way of the situation. It seems that sometimes a lot of catastrophes might have been prevented if people were more focused on finding a solution rather that who would get credit for finding it, or what not.
