Cambium

Cambium- meristematic plant tissue commonly present as a thin layer which forms new cells on both sides. The cambium forms the specialized xylem and phloem cells and causes the stem to increase in thickness. In trees like this pine tree it develops seasonal rings as the amount of nutrients rises and falls, which can also be used to determine the age of the tree.
