Section 4 of The Hot Zone wasn’t
as eventful as the other sections. I thought that the book ended up nicely but
the last section was relatively short. I liked reading about the Kinshasa
Highway and Preston’s journey into Kitum Cave. Preston described Kitum Cave
very well and it’s weird to think that somewhere in that dark cave there is one
of the deadliest life forms on Earth. I learned that the Kinshasa Highway
played a major role in the spread of AIDS during the 20th
century, and that most of the world’s animal and plant species are found in
tropical rain forests. The question I always have for this book is will they find
a cure? Also at the end of the book when the author says “it
will be back.” This makes me worried that Ebola will have another serious
outbreak. In all, the book was pretty educational and entertaining. I still
think it is a shocker that this is based on true events.
