The Hot Zone (Part Four)

I thought this last section was ended nicely as the author went back to Kitum cave, where this story originally started. This part was rather short, but the author was still able to go into detail about all of the precautions he had to take when going into the cave. A statement on page 407 really caught my attention in regards to these viruses. "The earth is attempting to rid itself of an infection by the human parasite." That quote in particular, got me thinking about what else could be out there that was designed, specifically, to kill humans. After finishing this book I am still left with the question, when will Ebola or Marburg reveal themselves once again?

  1. I agree. I liked how the book started and ended in Kitum Cave. I also really like the quote that you picked out. It really makes you think and makes your heart skip a beat. We may never know.

  2. That is a great quote. I think it intresting to view humans as a parasite to earth, in contrast with Ebola as a parasite to humans. Because there is no cure for the virus and we really don't know where i could pop up, we are helpless. It is a scary feeling that we all must face. But still a really good book! :)

  4. The fact that he came back to where it started makes me think that the virus will continue to return.

  5. That quote really caught my attention as well, it really puts a different perspective on our existence on earth. I don't get why would he want to go to an area that could have a virus to make him into mush. The Ebola virus revealed itself quite recently in Africa, but after a yahoo article I read, but I haven't heard much afterward.
