Peony plants and ants have a mutualistic relationship. The casing on the outside of the buds before the flower blooms are hard, and the ants help break down this casing to allow the flower to bloom. In return, the ants get nourishment from eating the casing. Both species benefit from the other, so this is an example of mutualism.
