Hot Zone Part 4
In this past section of the Hot Zone I really enjoyed, how the author traveled to Kitum cave and went in to explore for himself. I also enjoyed the color commentary that was made by the local guide of theirs. This section interested me in the specification of how AIDS had come to be. It gave quite a good history of how it traveled the human race to be found in the streets of San Francisco. Also how the author made his own hot zone and safe zone when he entered the cave. I found this very interesting that they can make they're own scientific lab almost anywhere. But I still do have to wonder what would have become of the speaker if he had caught Ebola? Would the other travelers in his group be able to properly follow his directions? Finally do you ever believe that an Ebola break will be used as biological warfare?

If the author had caught some strain of Ebola, he would most likely have died. The rest of the group might have paniced and would have forgotten his intructions, unless someone kept a level head.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Eva, I don't think they could of handled a situation of that magnitude. Especially knowing how dangerous this virus is and how easy it is to get infected. The Ebola virus being used as a biological weapon seems like an incredibly dangerous yet realistic threat. However, if it ever is used for this purpose I think it would backfire because it is presumably airborne and I doubt they'll be able contain it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Sam. The local guide really added some character to this last part. I also found it rather interesting that the speaker was able to create his own hot and safe zones. If the speaker had died, I don't think his instructions would have been followed, but I guess we don't really know that for sure. I would hate to think so, but I think an Ebola break used as biological warfare is extremely possible in this day and age.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that the local guides brought some more character to this section, made the section a little bit more interesting. The history that brought AIDS to the states was really brief and wasn't descriptive enough. The thought of Ebola being used as a weapon gives me the chills, especially reading what the virus can do to males. Hopefully this Ebola will never be used as a weapon.
