HOT ZONE (part 4)

This last section kind of confused me. Did the author go to Africa? I ask because ion this last section he uses "I". Does he have a degree or prior training with level 4 viruses? We as a reader don't know, because it never says. Obviously he has done research because he was able to write this book, however in this section it sounds like he has a job were he is around these viruses all the time. Otherwise his trip into the cave was really dangerous if he didn't know exactly what he was doing. Also no one goes in with him. What if something had happened in the cave. It would have been wise to have someone else with him. It is called the buddy system. I found this book to be really good. The last sentence brings back the reality of this book; that these viruses really do exist and in time there will be another mass breakout. A scary, but true thought.

  1. Very true Shelby we must be careful when using and being near these viruses. They can be species threatening.

  2. Yes the author did go to Africa and he did visit Kitum Cave. He also must have some degree in the medical field that deals with viruses. Otherwise why would he have written this book.

  3. He does not have a degree in the medical field, he majored in English at Pomona College and earned a Ph.D. in English at Princeton.

  4. Lets just hope when and if there is another mass breakout we will be somewhat prepared and able to protect ourselves.
