The fish caught in Lake Michigan (like the ones in this picture) are an excellent representation of biological magnification. Mercury gets into the water in small amounts, but the little fish eat it, and there is more of it in there systems (because they eat many particles of it) The big fish then eat many little fish, so there is even more mercury present in the big fish. As you go up the food chain there is more mercury, so this is an example of biological magnification.
