In case you can't see- that's my stomach and i've circled and written "Appendix" where my appendix is. A vestigial structure is something that an organism has but doesn't need to survive and doesn't really need at all. It serves no purpose. So that's why some people can have their appendix removed- it doesn't serve a purpose in their body.
