The Hot Zone (Part Two)
I found this section harder to follow because it involved more people and a wider range of "stories," and it also began talking more about Ebola instead of Marburg. In this part, I learned that a virus can have "sister" or "cousin" viruses, which are similar, but may have different effects or characteristics. The main question I have for this section is, why is Nancy so sure that the other workers weren't infected, merely because they hadn't broken any skin, when Ebola can be transmitted through the air and into the lungs?

Sometimes I got mixed up also. All the different names confused me.
ReplyDeleteI agree! This section was a lot harder to follow, especially with all the new people being introduced. As for Nancy, I feel that even if she is so sure that workers without broken skin weren't infected, she should still act as though they all could potentially come intact with the virus.
ReplyDeleteReally good question Hannah.
ReplyDeleteYOu make a good point with that last question Hannah, but so far the "airborn" transmission of this virus has only worked with the monkeys. No humans have been infected yet. Excited to keep reading though, to see if any humans get infected. :)
