Part One of The Hot Zone

The Hot Zone by Richard Preston was boring at first, but then became very interesting because I then realized how much of an affect it had on human species from living things such as monkeys. I could imagine then what would happen if a lethal virus happened now in our area and had no cure or way to get the rare, deadly virus out of the host. Some parts in The Hot Zone was disturbing and horrible to read what the host of the virus had to go through.
I learned quite a few things from this novel. I learned that viruses can be transmitted through air, secretions, and blood. Also, there are different stages of viruses such as a cold, which you can get out of your system by medicine. But these kind of viruses such as Ebola and AIDS were very severe and deadly, there was no real cure to them. I learned that scientists experimented with monkeys that had Ebola and ones that didn't and see how they reacted and watched them over a series of days
and then from then tried to find a cure for humans. I also learned viruses are named where they are first discoverd, I thought this was very interesting. I learned that the virus might have started from the Behring Works importing monkeys from Uganda and the virus spread throughout the population. Finally, I learned that Marburg virus was a sister virus with Ebola Zaire and Ebola Sudan.

Questions that I still have are; What is the main source of Ebola? Do scientists have any idea what a cure could be for this virus? Did Sese Islands have any part of Ebola spreading? How many lethal viruses that don't have a cure are out there?
