Adaptation of a Plant

Forms or structures that are modified to better suit a changed environment.  This plant most likely has become adapted to the seasonal changes that happen in the Midwest and has developed structures that allow it to survive the Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter without threat of becoming extinct.
